Yum Yum Little Vegetable Pies

Hi out there,

I've already told you about our visit at David's dad and grandma in Graz. At this occasion David's dad also gave me a little cooking lesson and taught me how to make his famous vegetable pies (aka Austrian Samosas ;) ).
They are actually really easy to make and very good! Perfect party food as well if you ask me as they fit perfectly into one hand. Pair these babies with some nice dips and you'll have a happy party crowd. :)

What you'll need
  • 500g spelt flour
  • 125g butter
  • a little water
  • one little pack baking powder
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • vegetables and spices of your choice for the filling (in this case we used spinach, mushrooms, mozzarella, chilli, mustard seeds, aniseed, curcuma, pepper, salt)
How it works

For the dough mix the flour and the baking powder in a bowl and add the butter which you've cut into little pieces before. Levigate the butter and the flour with your fingertips until the mix gets crumbly. Add a little water and knead the mixture into a dough and form a ball. Let the dough rest while you prepare the filling.
For the filling simply put your vegetables and spices into a pan with a little oil in it and cook them until done.

Put some oil on a board and roll a piece of dough (about 3mm thick)

Cut out a circle and cut it into half.

Form a little funnel out of your dough and turn down the end of the funnel.

Now you can fill your little funnel with the vegetables.

Close the pastries by pressing together the open sides of the dough.

Put the pastries for about 20 to 25 minutes at 180°C into the oven. If you want the pastries to become really crispy you can also fry them instead.

Enjoy!!

Yours,
Tulip
